The Gasteig has found its interim home on a former Stadtwerke factory site until further notice - and proved what happens when creative disciplines can unfold in one place. A guided tour through Munich's cultural center that is ideally suited as an inspiring collegial excursion. At the same time, the Gasteig HP8 offers premises for company celebrations with a special charm.
Worlds meet in the new Gasteig, that much is certain - architecturally as well as disciplinarily. Because from October 2021, the HP8 will serve as the alternative headquarters for the Academy of Music and Theater, the Munich Chamber Orchestra, the Philharmonic Orchestra, the City Library and the Adult Education Center - all under one roof. Here, people rehearse, sing, read, dance - in symbiosis.

Our tour begins in Hall E: a converted transformer hall and centerpiece of the new Gasteig, which can also be rented. If the Isarphilharmonie is playing, you can celebrate events on 146 square meters, without simultaneous play even events for 900 people can take place. If you need even more space, you can book the mezzanine for another 200 people.
From salsa nights to exhibitions with flower installations for the Flower Power Festival to roller skating disco - the Gasteig HP8 has seen almost everything. "We offer space here for all kinds of cultural professionals, customers* and guests," explains Kathrin Metzner, responsible for communications and marketing at Gasteig. In the Projektor, a room in Hall E and equipped with the latest technology, curated film programs are presented - but MICE groups of up to 97 people can also find space here
The tour continues to Hall X, something like the Gasteig's all-rounder. The separate modular building for up to 340 people offers 193 square meters of space for readings, workshops and lectures. With large windows, the latest technology, its own foyer and toilets, parties can be held here completely detached from the rest of the Gasteig. "Our gastronomic partner GAiA can support here with delicious food made from regional and seasonal products if desired," says Ms. Metzner.
The Small Hall is something like the little sister of Hall X. Located in the building of the adult education center and the GAiA restaurant, the small hall has a separate entrance and about 100 seats with its own foyer, stage and storage room and the latest technology. According to Ms. Metzner, it is particularly suitable for classical music and cinema screenings, but also for many other events that the MICE heart desires.
When you leave Hall E and climb the stairs to the Isarphilharmonie, you are briefly caught between two worlds: On one side, the brick wall of Hall E; on the other, the outer wall of the Isarphilharmonie, connected under a steel shell. The Isarphilharmonie is a building within a building, Ms. Metzner explains. "A large crane erected the steel framework here and hung prefabricated wooden components." Yet the team around the architectural firm gmp had a sustainable model in mind. "If we have to leave here again - which we don't want to happen by now, because we have fallen very much in love with this place - we can just as easily take the hall apart again and rebuild it somewhere else," explains Metzner.

The Isarphilharmonie is all black and feels intimate - because even those sitting upstairs in the last row are no more than 33 meters from the stage. 1956 people can find space here at most when the doors are opened. And indeed, this spectacular venue can also be used for events. The first floor can be flexibly configured, and MICE customers can also use the tiers on the upper floor.
Just as we are about to end our tour of the Isarphilharmonie, a young man enters the hall, sits down at the piano and begins to play. Seong-Jin Cho, one of the world's leading pianists of his generation, has spontaneously decided to rehearse for his next concert - allowing us to experience just how unique the sound of the Isarphilharmonie is. For moments like this, you just have to be a little lucky at the Gasteig HP8. The colleagues and staff will never forget such events.
The Gasteig HP8 offers guided tours of the grounds and the main contact points for up to 20 people. These last between one and one and a half hours and are available in German, English and Dutch from Monday to Friday. Cost: 150 euros.
